Rhodes is the largest of the twelve islands in the Aegean Sea and the administrative region of the Twelve Islands and the center of Rhodes (including Symi, Herke, Ileki and Meis islands). Adan has a population of 130.000 in 2004 and 55.000 of them live in Rhodes.

The island, about 220 km from the sea, is at the northern end of Rhodes town. Includes antique site and modern trade port. The main air gateway is Rhodes Diagoras International Airport. The most important settlement outside Rhodes on the northern tip of the island is Lindos on the southeast coast.
